Our Story
The FPC Preschool started in the 70’s when a group of mothers desired a time in their week to run errands, clean, and generally get things done that are hard to do while caring for children. Thus, the Friday Mother’s Morning Out program for one-year-olds began. After seeing a need in the community, the church expanded the program to a two-year-old program that met twice a week.
Again, seeing a need for affordable childcare in our growing community, the church decided to expand the program in Spring of 2022 to include a 3 and 4 year-old class, and has since doubled to two classes of each age group.
The preschool has been established, and continues to grow, to serve the needs of our church and community.
About our Program
The FPC Preschool is an outreach ministry of First Presbyterian Church in York, SC. The Preschool was developed to meet the varied needs of the young child. Research shows that the most influential years of a young child’s life are from birth to the age of six - comprised of the fastest, most impressionable growth periods. What they learn during these years will shape their attitudes about themselves and everyone around them.
The learning experience at FPC Preschool takes place in a caring, Christian environment where each child's individuality is respected. We believe that faith and education go hand in hand and both glorify God.
Our goal is to give each child an opportunity to grow according to God's plan, at his/her own pace, with a feeling of "joy of life" and a knowledge that God loves them.
Our Preschool program is for children between 1-4 years of age on or before September 1 of the school year. In addition to interacting with other children their age, they will also participate in free play, snack, and group time. The children will make age appropriate Bible, educational, and seasonal crafts as well as work on various developmental skills throughout the year. Religion is emphasized daily using a non-denominational curriculum. In addition, Rev. Setzer leads the children weekly in songs and a scripture lesson in the sanctuary.
We follow the York School District 1 school calendar. Below is an outline of how our classes are structured:
- MMO (1 year-old) - Friday 9a-12p
- 2K - M/W or T/TH 9a-12p
- 3 K - Tuesday - Thursday 9a-12p
- 4K - Monday - Thursday 9a-12p
